The Elizabeth Spencer Team Wine and Book Pairing Guide

Because we are all spending more time at home these days, we have been able to catch up on our reading. There is nothing like tuning out the world and settling in with an engrossing detective book, or catching up on some contemporary fiction or being inspired by a new cookbook with a glass of wine as an accompaniment. Preferably with one of our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignons or our Sonoma Coast Chardonnay or any other of your favorite Elizabeth Spencer wines.

Here are some suggestions of book and wine pairings from a few of our team members at Elizabeth Spencer.

Founder, Elizabeth Pressler

Our 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon, Rutherford shows rich complexity, enticing aromas, and nuances that unfold in the glass much the way that Kya’s journey unfolds on the pages of “Where the Crawdads Sing” By Delia Owens. This novel has a bit of everything from mystery, drama, romance, all in a coming-of-age story which transports the reader to the marshlands of North Carolina following a young girl on her journey to trust human connections.

Engrossing, exciting, layered, and distinctive, and it’s not just our 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon, Special Cuvée we are talking about! A true must read, “Land of Wolves: A Longmire Mystery” by Craig Johnson,  is a smart, thoughtful mystery leaving you incapable of being bored. This book and wine pairing are a winning combination that will leave you wanting more.

Looking for inspiration? The search ends with “Leaders Eat Last” by Simon Sinek along with our 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon, Atlas Peak.  Sinek explains that great leadership is predicated upon behaviors of empathy and trust.  Our Atlas Peak Cabernet Sauvignon is robust and full-bodied with supple and firm tannins, the ideal match for this engaging and stimulating read.

A window into the life of Michelle Obama with endearing memoires and insightful observations. Make sure you get comfortable before starting to read “Becoming” by Michelle Obama and have our 2017 E x S Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast close by your side. You will not want to put this book down! Obama’s story is unique and thought provoking, a perfect complement to our premier Pinot Noir. Grace and elegance are indicative of the pinot noir grape which match the story telling style of this memoir.

Working on self-care is something that is top of mind during these times and nothing couples better with “The Gift of Forgiveness: Inspiring Stories from Those Who Have Overcome the Unforgivable” By Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt than our 2018 E x S Grenache Blanc, Napa Valley. When delving into the book one is reminded about the divine topic of forgiveness and our enormous gain when we forgive others, and even forgive ourselves. Our Grenache Blanc stays true to it’s varietal characteristics and offers a crisp finish with stone fruit aromas giving balance and depth along with this inspirational book.
